Are We Having Fun Yet? How to Make Science Fun for Elementary Students (& Their Teachers)

This all-day training workshop was held Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the NJ Museum of Agriculture on the Cook College campus of Rutgers University in North Brunswick, NJ. Learn hands-on science activities and methods. Aimed at teachers and other educators working with youth grades 3-7. Cost is only $50, which includes curriculum, morning refreshments, and lunch!   The workshop is sponsored by Rutgers Cooperative Extension Department of 4-H Youth Development, a NJ Department of Education Professional Development Provider. Program activities support the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards.  Register no later than March 10 (space is limited  first-come, first-served!).  You can download a workshop flyer (123K PDF file) with a complete description of the schedule, workshop choices, registration information, etc. 

Recent Training & Outreach Efforts

After initial pilot testing, the Science Discovery Series has been used by a variety of educators throughout New Jersey and beyond.  Hundreds of teachers, Extension staff, and others have been trained to use the hands-on Science Discovery Series activities to improve science education and youth development, through a variety of highly-evaluated professional development opportunities such as:

  • Workshop at Alliance for NJ Environmental Education (ANJEE) conference

  • NJ Science Teachers Convention seminars and pre-conference workshops.

  • Workshop at Pennsylvania Alliance for Environmental Education conference

  • NJ Community Connections Conference

  • NJ Southern Regional CYFAR (Children, Youth, & Families at Risk) Conference

  • Workshops at NJ Council for Elementary Science teacher conferences at Rider University and Middlesex County College.

  • Seminars at National Association of Extension 4-H Agents conference

  • Workshop at National Science and Technology Symposium (Orlando, FL).

  • Poster presentations at NJ 4-H Science Olympiad and Rutgers Cooperative Extension Annual Conferences.

  • NJ 4-H Camp staff training.
